Email received January 18, 2012 from a Tomoka Estates resident. (name
has been xxx out)
I responded to the person summarizing what has taken place recently about the
issue.
------------------------------
Mr. Echelberry –
My name is xxxx; my address is xxx Coquina Avenue. I’m not exactly sure when
the repetitive airplane noise began to have such a negative impact on my quality
of life; best guess is June or July of 2011.
I was wondering if you would please agree to meet with me regarding the noise pollution that is taking place in the Tomoka Estates area.
I have visited your website and have a general idea of complaints that have been made, etc. However, I have not read every entry to know specifically what has been presented to the City of Ormond Beach regarding this community disturbance. My guess is that the City is providing the community with some type of committee that allows voices to be heard, makes a few concessions to appease some residents but never intends to make any significant changes to the Ormond Beach aviation program.
It has gotten to a point where I have to literally leave my home while airplanes are flying within hearing distance. It is not how loud the plane is or how low the planes are flying, it is the repetitiveness. Planes flying around in circles over and over and over again is having a devastating impact on my quality of life; it has gotten to the point where I am debilitated by this noise interference. I do not currently work (so am at home quite often) and am taking courses at Daytona State so naturally I have to read and study at home; it is impossible to do with the repetitive noise that takes place in the air space surrounding my home. I am approaching this with you in as diplomatic and professional manner as I can, but when the planes are flying around and around over my house, I am literally incapacitated from performing normal, daily functions.
I’m not sure what specific actions have been taken regarding the airplane noise disruption in our area. What I do know is that something isn’t working as this noise is worse for me now than ever before. What I would like to do is meet with you to in regards to the following:
Ø Discuss other avenues we may be able to pursue to approach this disturbance
Ø Find a method that will help rally the support of ALL Tomoka Estate residents; when I say all, I mean ALL
Ø Formulate a massive, determined action plan that the Tomoka Estates residents can present to the City of Ormond Beach that demands change for this unbearable noise disturbance
Mr. Echelberry, I’m willing to dedicate a significant amount of my time to finding a resolution to this cause; at this point, it is absolutely unbearable for me to live in my home that I have resided in since 1993. If the economy were better, I would sell my home and move somewhere else; however, the present state of the economy leaves me no choice but to stay where I am. Others in Tomoka Estates may be making the best of the situation with the noise pollution but, for whatever reason, I am not able to withstand it. I do believe, however, that the residents that are currently choosing to make the best of it will support the cause if they are given a platform to stand on. I’m willing to do whatever I can to provide that platform and the time is now.
Please let me know if you are willing to meet with me. Respond to my email with a day and time that is good for you; we can meet at my house.
Thank you for all you have done so far regarding this nuisance in our neighborhood. If it weren’t for people like you, there would be no forum for us at all.
Thank you.
